The Long National Nightmare has seen its last full day come and go. All the counting down to 1/20/09 made this day seem like such an ethereal being, but now it is here. It is real. It is ours.
I don't know about you, but I remember exactly where I was on January 20th, 2005. This wasn't what I expected to see 4 years later (Gore? Dean? Hillary?) But could it be any sweeter? In one of America's darkest hours, we turned it into one of its finest.
Enjoy the day everyone, we've earned it. I really wish they allowed alcohol on the mall, because I want to take a shot of whiskey at noon to toast our new president, and the fade away of our current one.
"Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country"-JFK
"Some people see things as they are and ask why. I see things that never were and ask why not."- RFK
"The long national nightmare is over"-Gerald Ford
"Want some wood?"-Dubya
Time for some 1630s Winthrop. Let's be that City Upon a Hill once again.
Stay warm if you're heading to the mall as I am. Get there early, be patient, and know that you're part of the story that is America.
